This weekend I went to Fayetteville to visit my loves. I attended a Writer's Collective Saturday afternoon with Becki, my partner in crime. Then I went to a fabulous dinner with Krista (little) and Sarah (adopted little). After that, Sarah and I went and saw "Silver Linings Playbook," which was AWESOME.
Anyway, to the meat of my story.
On Sunday Krista, Sarah and I detoured to Starbucks before church. While we were there, I noticed a woman who was FABULOUS. She had on an awesome pair of dress pants and an awesome blouse, and she was wearing these incredible Rock and Republic nude platforms! Her hair was super cool: dark brown with blond streaks and she had half of it pulled back in a clip, and the rest of her hair was curled outwards. SO CUTE. Then, I notice her bracelet. The one she was wearing was an off-brand Pandora bracelet and one of her charms was a WATCH FACE! I comment on it to Krista and Sarah, we order our drinks, and then walk over to the other side of the counter to wait for our drinks. While we're over there, I finally have to ask the woman about the watch charm. She says she got it as a present and then we talked about how Pandora charms are so expensive. I was wearing my Pandora bracelet and I commented on how most of my charms were fake. We exchanged smiles and then Krista, Sarah and I had our own little conversation. I moved over to put some cinnamon in my Grade Iced Chai Latte, and as the woman left she said, "Have a great day, ladies." As we're watching her walk across the parking lot, I'm making up a story for her. "What car does she drive? The Mini cooper?" I ask. I look down briefly to put the top back on my cup when Krista says, "Uh, nope. She's getting picked up." I look up to see the woman's husband driving up to meet her and she hops in.
That was all it took. I had decided that I wanted to be just like her. She was tall and curvy like me. She wore fabulous shoes and jewelry and then her husband would drive to pick her up so she didn't have to walk all the way to the car.
"Why didn't HE go in and buy the drinks?" you ask?
Well, the conclusion that I came to as I watched them pull away and I saw the cutest little boy sitting in the backseat was that she said, "Honey, you stay in the car with Garrett (yes, Garrett), and I'll use your debit card to buy the drinks. I just want to show off how fabulous I look today." And then she pranced on into Starbucks where she completely changed my life.
We get to church and find a seat and enjoy the worship. Then the pastor tells us to give everyone a high five. So we're turning around and laughing and high-fiving everyone, when both Sarah and Krista go, "OH MY GOSH!"... and there she is. She has walked to the front of the church to hug a girl who I immediately became envious of. We have a little freak out session about how much I want to be JUST like her, and then we enjoy the service. After the service is over I notice that she is walking out of the sanctuary by herself. Sarah says that it looks like she had been crying. We keep our eyes on her as we walk behind her, because I want to know if her husband is taller than her.
And guess what?
HE IS.
No matter how silly this may have been to obsess over, or how silly I feel writing all of this out, that woman gave me hope. She was confident and beautiful and seemed to have a loving husband and a beautiful child. Sure, her life wasn't perfect-- but she seemed so kind and happy. One day, I hope to be just like her.
