The First Week

I received a HeyTell the other day from a lovely Sarah Phillips. She complained that I hadn't posted a blog recently. This was a much welcomed complaint:)
As you all know, I moved into the apartment in The Scary Blue Building. Tomorrow will make a week. I have gone without internet and television until today. PRAISE GOD for Centurylink. They rolled on in here today and hooked me up with all the finest technological gadgets (that I was shocked to realize I can afford). Yes, we've got wireless internet! We've got Lifetime! We've got DVR!!!
I've never had DVR. I was watching tv and it came to a commercial and I think, "Maybe I can take a quick shower during commercials..." And then I remembered... I have DVR! I paused it and took my shower and came back and got to start watching right where I stopped. AND I could fast-forward through commercials!
I'm in love.

Besides DVR, I am falling in love with this apartment. It just makes a big circle.
My bedroom still has a lot of work to do, so I won't post pictures of that yet. But the living room is looking pretty nice. Here's a picture of it so far:

As you can see, it's not a very big spot. But I read in a decorating book about making your own spaces with furniture, so that's what I am trying to do with the chair. The mirrors had been left there by a previous tenant, and I liked them. The purple love seat Mom bought me for $10 at a yardsale, and the chair is my most prized reading chair, a gift from my aunt a few years ago. I know the purple of the love seat doesn't go very well with the whole color-scheme of the apartment, but I don't mind it. As most of you know, purple is my favorite color. However, I do plan on either making or buying a creme slip cover for it. That way, it'll match those fabulous pillows (a gift from a co-worker Note to self: Write thank-you note).
The table below the chic light ($40-ish bucks on Amazon) is the end table I decorated and posted pics of on Facebook, and then the other end table was a gift from my pal Rachael. I plan to make that into a suitcase table. The circle suitcases are just there to be kept out of the way. One of them will soon be made into a cat bed for Cleo.
I'm sure most of you (especially Sarah) are shocked by my lack of wall decor. But never fear! It's a work in progress.

Here's a pic in my bedroom. Cleo seems to be getting along just fine here. She perks up at every sound and tends to run to one of her hiding places when she hears the front door open, but I've started giving her a treat every time I come home. I know this is probably not good for her weight, but I want her to start running out to greet me when I come home. For the first few nights before I started the treats, she'd literally hide and it would take me 10 minutes to find her. By the time I'd find her, I was usually panicked, worried that she'd somehow found a way out of my apartment. But now I find her either stretched out on my bed, or standing by her food bowl, obviously waiting for her treat. I love her so.
As you can see in the picture, behind Cleo is the chimney that at first I was frustrated with (it ruined my whole plan for my bedroom), but now I love. All the wires are from Centruylink . I need to figure out a nice way to get them hidden.
And then to the right is my fan. It has a remote! I got it for a steal at Walmart for $27. (Seriously, I think I stole it. It rang up as $39.95 and I had picked it up off a display that said $26.95... The cashier didn't feel like checking it out, so she just changed the price!)

More pictures and stories are to come, yay internet!!!

  1. "I want her to start running out to greet me when I come home." you could always get a dog. they're genuinely happy when you get home and don't need to be bribed with treats.

  2. Thanks so much for commenting!! I would love to have a dog, but my landlord barely allowed me to bring my cat with me, and has said specifically NO dogs.
