The House Behind the Farm & The Chicken House

Today was one of those days where you look back and think of all the things you did, and realize that it was all in the same day. I won't bore you with details from my day, but let's just say it had it's ups and downs.

One of the biggest ups (besides seeing Sarah and my little Krista) was driving around with my step dad. This afternoon we took a trip to The One-Bedroom in The Scary Blue Building, and he checked out what I thought was a growth in the closet, and eased my nerves when he said that it was old water damage, that the roof appeared to be fixed, and it looked like the owner just needed to repaint and fix the ceiling.

When I tell Alan (step dad) about things I see on Pinterest, I complain about how there isn't a salvage yard here and how am I supposed to be super awesome things with my first place without a salvage yard?! (My complaints usually end like this, with my voice escalating an octave to display my obvious frustration.) Today, Alan's response was, "Well we got The House Behind the Farm and The Chicken House."

The House Behind the Farm

As you can tell, this place is old. And full of crap that men (yes, men) would probably find completely useless. But as a woman who has spent countless hours on Pinterest and crafting sites, I was gasping and oohing all over that house.

What I Found:

Two doors and two window panes. Also, not pictured: Something that I have been searching RELENTLESSLY for to fix up for a friend's wedding present. Finally I found what I have been searching for. I'm sure she's reading this, and wondering if it's about her (yes) and wondering if it's in the picture (no). Bwahahaa. The doors I chose may be too heavy for my idea (Idea #1, pictured and explained below), so I snagged a hollow door from The Chicken House later on. The window panes made me the happiest. They are for Idea #2.

The Chicken House
(Sorry, no picture. I will try to get one soon.)
Yes, you read right. The Chicken House. I still do not fully understand why it is called this, but my goodness am I glad that we went there. Apparently, The Chicken House is where my grandpa stores things that he can't use but that he may use one day... Much like a hoarder, but I really feel bad calling him that after what I found today.

What I found:

Cabinet, two stools, a hollow door (not pictured), and a chair (not pictured). The chair is to be made into something for someone who may be reading this and she will not find out what it is yet! Also at The Chicken House, my mom snagged a few things that she wanted. She actually held a dirty side table in her lap on the drive home because it wouldn't fit in the back of the Explorer. That's called dedication, right there.

Idea #1:

Basically, the gist of it is the door hangs horizontally and I paint chalkboard paint on one side and glue on a cork board on the other side.

Idea #2:

This is a window pane hung from the ceiling with white Christmas lights around it. And my bar stools:) I'll re-cover the seats in a type of upholstery fabric that matches the colors in my apartment.

By the way, I also learned how to drive with a trailer attached to the truck (and REVERSE)!
